compared to my cat 22, the cletrac is a dream to operate.

Ain't that the truth!! I used to have a couple Cat 10's. They're fun, but the Cletracs were way ahead and easier to run. They'd run circles around the Cats easily!:P
1728  Cletrac Tractor Discussion / HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Oliver OC-4 Dozer on: July 03, 2002, 03:25:38 PM
I'm posting this for Doug as he is having some difficulty starting a new topic:

I'm looking for some photo's of an Oliver OC-4 with a 6 way blade.
I have one that someone modified the lift cylinder mountings. I would like to see what the originals look like. I have a piece of literature, but pictures aren't good enough. I need to see some close up photo's of the cylinder mounting. If anyone has one, I would appreciate your help.

Thanks, Doug

I think has a Cletrac like yours with the colors you need. Maybe he'll chime in here, but I don't know if he's registered yet.

Good luck,

From what I recall, it's just a little pad of brake lining. I don't think there's enough room in there for much more.

on your OC 12 does the floor pedel operate a separate brake or does it operate the two steering brakes together? You are right it is one of Cletrac's few short comings!

It operates a separate brake - a dry brake that I believe is on the impute shaft to the transmission. Way undersized and wears out quickly.

It's one of the short commings of a Cletrac that was trying to be overcome in the later years when Oliver would not put much money into the crawlers. My OC-12 has a foot brake, but it is about worthless - they wear out very fast if used. I believe the OC-96 had a foot brake pedal along with the steering pedals. Not sure about the late OC-4.

1733  Cletrac Tractor Discussion / Military Cletracs / on: June 26, 2002, 12:50:28 AM
I'm not an expert by any means on military tractors, but there were basically two: the MG-1 and MG-2. The MG-1 was a bomber nurser that had an air compressor and generator for starting and servicing airplanes. It could also tow them.

I hope this helps.

1734  History / Cletrac History / on: June 24, 2002, 02:21:11 AM
I found this on a list:

Tractor model FDLC 1941-Up starting with serial number 1HA000 and Up used Cummins Diesel engine model HBISD.

I don't know anything more about this. It could have been a wartime decision to use Cummins. I know Studebaker made some of the JXC engines for the B's.

Investigation continues....:D

I never knew they used Cummins engines - have you seen them? What is your source of that?

I know they used Buda diesels for awhile in certain models. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was a weight consideration - this is just a guess. I know they used Budas in the ED and Hercules DOOC's in the AD at the same time. Why is this?

My grandfather did not really like the Buda diesels - he said they were not very good engines.

Is the Buda engine the engine that the Allis-Chalmers diesels were based on? I mean the later tractors with their own engine - not the Detroits. I know A-C owned Buda.

I'll try to think of who to ask about John's question.

I'll be at the Pioneer Steam show as I listed here.

Hi Tim and welcome aboard!

What is your Cat 22 like? What's the condition and does it run?

You can also list it for free in the Cletrac classifieds at

Good luck,
