My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. Wow, that's a nice looking machine, 3J1Bill.  Thanks for posting the photo.  How long have you had it?  And is the other crawler yours, as well?

The Cletrac that's on eBay is also listed at EnginAds.  I guess this is one of the ones that is shown in the gallery elsewhere on this site.  If I'd have waited a few years, I could've bought that one for about what I've got in sunk costs on my '42 (and mine is still half torn apart).  Cheesy

The CAT is a 1932 USMC tractor from San Diego, CA. The CLETRAC came from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Washington.

Douglas,
That is always true about buying vs restoring (my '46 AG-6 is still apart & progressing s-l-o-w-l-y) - but I justify it this way - I LEARNED so much more by doing it myself, and education is priceless!  If it hadn't taken me so long, I wouldn't have bought the '45 AG-6, which needed a track repair and some electrical work, but is now running and working for me.

Very true.  In reality, the satisfaction of working on machinery is a big part of why I bought mine.  And it has delivered that.  But I will say that it will be a great day when I finally get to take a drive on it under its own power.  And I knew going in that I'd spend more than I'd ever get if I ever sell it.
