8/10/11 - Added a new board: Trucking and Hauling

5/30/11 - Just added several new pictures to the Photo Gallery, including several Alfta Track OC-4 working in snow logging, several from the Chicago Road Show, and some from a logging show (not all Oliver/Cletrac). All these pictures are from around 1963 and were scanned from old slides given to me by my late friend John W. Davis. Go to the Photo Gallery and click on "NEW" to see these pictures. Quality is marginal, but I think you will enjoy them.

2/13/11 - Just added a new board "New members introduce yourselves here".

Folks, I just added a new photo gallery where you can upload your own pictures with descriptions, etc. Right now this is in the beta testing stage to see how it works out. Give it a try, but please keep a backup copy of your pictures just in case we decide to use something else. I would prefer you use your real name on the photo gallery, but if you really don't want to, please use the same username as on the forum. Please put your images into the proper categories and take care when your write out your descriptions and image names so people can search for them. I am learning this as we go. At least at the beginning, I have it set up where the administrator has to approve members. I am afraid we may get porn spam in here if we leave it open. Will be pulling a K20 out of a barn this weekend.  It was driven into it's resting place many a year ago and hasn't moved since.  Farmer is now selling everything and I got this guy for a reasonable price.  The tractor is in excellent condition and has never been restored.  Unfortunately, it's not complete and I suspect there was something wrong with it that resulted in some parts missing.  Hood, air cleaner and the governor are missing.  I suspect the governor needed repair which would have resulted in the other parts being removed.  The engine is free and turns over very easily.  I don't think it'll take much to get it running.  If I have the time, maybe I'll try to drive it onto the trailer.

Unfortunately, at some point the engine froze and popped the block right behind the spark plug wires.  The cracks were welded, but I think it might have froze a second time and broke the welds.  It appears the wrong rod may have been used as the weld released from the face of the casting.  I'm not planning to restore the tractor, I want to get it to working condition and keep the patina.  To reach this goal, I see a couple of options:

1. I grind and reweld the block.  Cast iron is supposed to be difficult to weld, but I've had 100% success in the past using a nickle rod.
2. I was hoping to use Lock-N-Stitch to repair the block.  I contacted the mfr. and they apparently hate welding and say their product isn't appropriate to repair failed welds.  Their option is to have the bare block shipped to them where they will furnace braze the crack.
3. I source a new engine block.  Serial numbers will no longer match the machine.

Honestly, I'm hoping to keep the engine in the machine.  I'd rather not put the money into the motor at this time and maybe save that for a future project.  I also don't want to lose the patina on the engine.  I've seen unrestored equipment before and you can always spot the new parts because the finish doesn't match.

Hi Bill,
Too bad about the block, have you considered Vee-ing out the cracks with a die grinder and refilling them with JB Weld? That stuff works great!

Hi Jon, Long time no hear. This not my tractor,its a new members his name is Cord. Whats up with your machine ? I just Picked up a nice EN with a snow plow last week. Been looking for one of those for a while.Only about 1/2 from my house. Take care Bill in CT,
