8/10/11 - Added a new board: Trucking and Hauling

5/30/11 - Just added several new pictures to the Photo Gallery, including several Alfta Track OC-4 working in snow logging, several from the Chicago Road Show, and some from a logging show (not all Oliver/Cletrac). All these pictures are from around 1963 and were scanned from old slides given to me by my late friend John W. Davis. Go to the Photo Gallery and click on "NEW" to see these pictures. Quality is marginal, but I think you will enjoy them.

2/13/11 - Just added a new board "New members introduce yourselves here".

Folks, I just added a new photo gallery where you can upload your own pictures with descriptions, etc. Right now this is in the beta testing stage to see how it works out. Give it a try, but please keep a backup copy of your pictures just in case we decide to use something else. I would prefer you use your real name on the photo gallery, but if you really don't want to, please use the same username as on the forum. Please put your images into the proper categories and take care when your write out your descriptions and image names so people can search for them. I am learning this as we go. At least at the beginning, I have it set up where the administrator has to approve members. I am afraid we may get porn spam in here if we leave it open. I have tried to locate Dulux 017H paint and am told that Dulux no longer exists and that there is no crossover to Centari or equal paint.  Does anyone know how to get to the proper orange short of having it color scanned?  My trouble with color scanning is that depending on the wear and exposure there are probably 4 different shades of orange on my AG-6.

here is a number of the corect paint. it is by dupont. 661-017-G     enamel cletrac orange.    they should be able to cross reference this. I know its a  old post but it might help some1 out in future.

A little more information on the Martin Senour 99L-1952 (Cletrac Orange) I emailed Martin Senour inquiring about the availability (see below)

Q) Wondering if you still produce P/N Martin Senour 99l-1952 in spray cans? I believe it could have been industrial or automotive. It is sometimes called Cletrac Orange in the tractor community.

A) Good afternoon, Steven,

It appears that the 99L could likely stand for our tec 99 Acrylic Enamel.  This product is obsolete, so you wouldn't be able to get this exact paint.  However, the 1952 is a formula number that is a Grabber Orange color.  You can check with your nearest NAPA to see if they mix paint.  If they do, they could mix this color for you in another form (perhaps our Crossfire line Acrylic Enamel), and put it into a spray can for you.


Hugger Orange was a Chevrolet color they used on early Camaros. I wonder if it is close enough.

I used that 1952 paint code on my AD and was not completely satisfied on how it turned out. I think its too light, should have been a little more orange...

I have yet to find the perfect match, altho I haven't painted a tractor since then either...

I've used the "Cletrac Orange" Martin Senior paint from NAPA several years ago and was happy with the color, but it faded out much too quickly. This was their synthol enamel. Next time I would try to have the color mixed as an acrylic enamel and use hardener so that it does not fade. Too much work goes into preparations for a paint job to have the pain fade in a couple years.

As far as colors go, I don't know if anyone really knows the truly "correct" color for any make of antique equipment. Even factory colors varied from drum to drum of paint, suppliers changed over the years and there were other variables. I know John Deere Green varies, as does Farmall Red. Plus it faded over the years - and different paints faded differently. I've heard of PINK Farmalls with original paint!

I have several Gravelys too and their colors are all a little different, and no one really knows where to buy the "correct" color for them either.

If someone finds a Cletrac Orange that they really love - one in a paint type that does not fade - please share it with us.

I can't say the Martin Senior paint I used is bad. It has help up good, and not faded. I used the acrylic enamal with hardner.

I do agree with you Blake, colors varried from drum to drum I'd imagine.

For my purposes since I'm only painting a radiator top tank to hang on my shop wall I wanted to get close but no necessarily dead on exact. But as Blake mentioned. It is going to be almost impossible to know what exact is.

I talked with Landis about the color and was told that "Omaha Orange" is a very close color. I did a web search on Omaha Orange and found out it is sometimes called "Safety Orange"  That made some sense to me as a color to paint heavy equipment.

I bought a can of Rustoleum "Safety Orange" and tested it out. It appears to be very close to the Chevrolet "Hugger Orange." Also I found that a lot of Crysler 60's cars (Road Runner, Dusters) were painted "Omaha Orange" So it seems all of the paints I mention are only a shade or less away from what I suspect "Cletrac Orange" to be.

Ya know, I saw a paint chart hanging in the supply store a couple months ago, and thought to myself "Safety Orange" looks pretty darn close. Thought the next one painted might get this...

Here is a sample of "Safety Orange or Omaha Orange" This is the Rustoleum High Performance product. You can compare it to the can of Kroil penetrant laying next to the rad. tank. As you can see the Kroil can is just slightly more red.

That looks just like the Martin Senior Cletrac Orange I painted my E-62 with years ago Steve. Nice color!

Have you had any success in finding the rest of the Cletrac that goes with that radiator? Wink

Well guys, I kinda messed up the other day. I painted my lowboy red. They had the safety orange there, as well as Waukesha (burnt) orange. Both could work. I kinda liked the burnt orange, is a little darker. Well I shoulda got one or the other and tried it on the trailer to see how I liked it on something. I have another trailer that needs painting and could have painted the other with the other orange. Oh well, I'll just paint the one orange and find something else to paint the other orange. At least a trailer is easy enough to paint so if I hate it I could just paint it another color completely!

The paint I'm using is made by Tenemec. It is $40 a gallon where I buy it. Cheap enough and sticks to everything. I had painted the fenders on my Mack with it, and it is outdoors 99% of the time. It didn't fade in over a year, just the rust we didn't get off bubbled it out, and the salt didn't help either... The trailer is nice and shiney, its so bright my eyes hurt after looking at it for 6 hours...

I have a Ditzler paint chip card for tractors, it's antique too, it lists Cletrac Orange as part number DAE-60045. Hope it is helpful to someone.
