Photo Album - Greg Key Pictures

This tractor was recently purchased in Idaho where the story goes that a 12 inch tree was cut from between the blade and tractor before it was moved to the current location. It will be retrieved for restoration as the weather dries the access road.

Looks like it hasn't run for at least 20 years and should be a great challenge.

Sadly, Mr. Key recently passed away actively engaged in his beloved career. See the following news release:

Orofino - Greg Key, Telecommunications Specialist for the Clearwater National Forst, passed away Tuesday afternoon after an apparent heart attack. He was 45.

Key was assisting Coast Guard personnel who are monitoring an oil spill in the Clearwater River. He was installing a radio repeater on Kidder Ridge near Kooskia, Idaho, when he became ill. Medical assistance was summoned. He was transported by helicopter to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino where he was pronounced dead.

Key came to the Clearwater National Forest in 1998. In addition to serving as the Clearwater's telecommunications specialist, he was also a Forest Service tower-climbing trainer. He served as communications unit leader for a Northern Rockies fire management team and filled in for other teams when communications skills were needed.

An active member of the community of Weippe, Key was a Boy Scout leader. He also volunteered his time and knowledge to help develop a communications plan in preparation for the upcoming Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. According to Forest Supervisor Larry Dawson, Key was an extremely knowledgeable specialist and provided outstanding service to all, always with a smile. "Greg was a friend to all. We are very saddened by his untimely passing. The Forest Service and many people in this area will miss him," Dawson said.

Key is survived by his wife, Denise, and five children.
