Well I purchased a new, unused set of OC-6 tracks from the 'UP' of Michigan. Just what I need  :)
Turns out they are new OC-12 tracks. Is guess that's good because I assume they are rarer, but my poor OC-6 is still left with these highly sought-after battered, convex grousers  >:(

Anyone got a copy of Service Bulletin CL252?
I've been trying to find it for a long time. I haven't tried Floyd County Museum yet though.

It concerns the earliest 1939 HG's that had 5 final drive studs, and either a 67/14 gear teeth count, or a 70/17. I'd like to try and find out what changes were made and when.
The pinion gear at that time only had one bearing and the gear and bearing were held in with a snap ring. The hub casting number was 112759. I read somewhere once that these earliest drive gears had 67 teeth, but I got an original out today with 70 teeth (see pics)

I hope you'll excuse the advertising but for you OC-6 and up guys, I've just listed a bound copy of some Cletrac and Oliver Heavy Equipment Service Bulletins on eBay.
It's in Superb Condition. Nicest quality binder I've ever seen.
Covers Models AD BD BG DG DD FDE 80 OC-6 OC-18 with all kinds of equipment upgrades, field servicing, parts revisions, installations etc. etc. (see photos for example).
Earliest bulletin is dated is June 1943, latest is January 1955. If anyone here wants it let me know and I'll take it off eBay. Item number: 281912339120

I know this site is not for selling, but I am just trying to pass on a good deal. I hope that's OK Blake?
I purchased some large-sized button head couplers by mistake  :-[ Alemite 304300-A = Giant Pull-On 1/8" NPTF(f)

I'm willing to let them go for my cost, if anyone is interested? My cost was $20. I see best online price is $45-$50 :o
http://www.amazon.com/Alemite-304300-A-Coupler-Standard-Fittings/dp/B009K50A2O

I have 9 or 10, I think.

I am happy for the money to go to Blake to help maintain this site.

Anyone got any idea what function these odd handle/lever looking parts serve? They seem to me to do nothing at all.
They are under the floor plate where it 'lips' up at the sides.
There's one on each side — identical — bolted with two bolts to the top of the rear dozer assembly mounting plate — that holds the round, solid steel pivot shaft at the back of the dozer push arms.

Here's a pic of the dozer too - what's left of it.

I learned something new about the rather odd serial number change that Oliver instigated in Nov. 1952 (from Bulletin Hbg.#8):
I quote: "Starting with the first tractor produced Nov. 1st 1952, regardless of model, the first serial number will be 3500001, the second tractor produced will bear serial no. 3500002, etc."
I hadn't realised that these numbers covered all tractors leaving the Cleveland plant. So, to use their example: 3500001 could be an OC-18, then 3500002 could be a DD, etc.
Tractors leaving Nov. 1st 1954 onwards started 4500001 etc.

The first two letters were the year backwards, for example 45 = '54 backwards

Oliver stated that this would affect the following production models: OC-3, AD, ADR (Roosa), AG-6, BD, BDR (Roosa), BDHL (loaders), BGS, BGSHL (loaders), DD, DG, OC-18, and the following future models: OC-6, OC-9, OC-12, OC-15.

I guess this rather confusing system was dropped after 1954.

Hey folks. I am just starting a Facebook page with a bunch of pics.
If some of you guys can 'like' my page, when it gets to 30, it becomes fully operational. I will try to post a range of interesting pics over the coming months.
Thanks, Chris

Just put some more interesting photos on there, including The Gang of Four being delivered!
1939 Cletrac EHG68; '53 Oliver OC3; '38 Cletrac EG38; '55 Oliver OC3 Universal Trencher.
They were delivered on a regular road trailer instead of the low-boy I ordered. So at short notice I had to rent a 10 ton rough terrain forklift to get them off the trailer!

Here's smaller pic of it...

Found in a field, hardly used, in Virginia. One broken brake band, cracked distributor cap - most everything else, excellent  :)
Got a nice back-fill blade with it too.
Checked over and all hoses replaced by Harold Zimmerman - painted up the road by Frank Hoover.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Unusual Gasket - funny
December 07, 2012, 11:25:45 PM
Taking advantage of mild weather to tear into another dead HG. Look at this great gasket! Some sort of impregnated canvas from yesteryear.

Wishing You All a Very Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year - and for those in the North, remember to park those tracks up on planks of wood, else you won't be playing 'til Spring ;-)

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / OC46-3G symtoms? Help
October 06, 2012, 09:46:26 PM
I was running my excellent 3 cylinder gas OC46 yesterday. Never have any trouble with it. Under load I was lifting a bucket of gravel. I adjusted the throttle up a bit to add hydraulic pressure. Then the engine suddenly raced, as if the governor did not kick-in, and died immediately, just as I leapt to take the throttle lever down to zero. It raced for a matter of not even two seconds before dying!

I have not been able to start it since, even though it all sounds fine, and turns over fine.

I have checked the fuel so far. That's getting through OK.

Any ideas before I take the hood off and check for sparks?
Thanks. Chris

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Late HG, Early OC3 Ware Loaders
September 17, 2012, 10:35:56 PM
While digging for 3WI valve information I found the following about early Ware loaders for late Hgs and OC3s:
Model HGF Loader (serial numbers A-1000 to A-1100) - with backfiller blade, humus bucket, digging bucket
Model HGF (inc. 3-FT and 3-FH) Loaders - with backfiller blade, humus control or trip-bucket, material control or trip-bucket
Model 3-FST Loader - with backfiller blade, humus bucket, material bucket
Model 3-FSH Loader - with backfiller blade, humus bucket, material bucket
Let me know if you ever need to know any pump or valve part numbers...

Not sure yet of the differences between them. I've seen a few, but mostly in quite a mess!

Can anyone supply me with the tooth counts for OC4s and the approximate date they changed? I have seen some with OC3 set-ups. And I've heard of 'mongrels' with different gear set-ups on each side! I guess so long as the ratio works out the same, the machine will not veer to one side  :o
Here's what I have so far from parts manuals:
Early four cylinder models Bull 119 142 Pinion 117 600 [72/15 like OC3s???]
Early 3 cylinder models Bull 607 799 FS [67 teeth] Pinion 603 829 F [14 teeth]
Later 3 cylinder models Bull 610 817 FS [58 teeth] Pinion 610 711 F [12 teeth]

Earlier I posted a how to on removing an engine without removing the tracks frames.
Always looking to save time, so here's another 'cheat'  ;D
This set of tracks is superb but the track pin looked like it was going to be a difficult one. I did not have my torch with me and I don't have a press.
Previous owner had ruined the track adjustment screws using grips instead of a wrench, so I figured I could cut that to give room for the front idler to slip back.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Crawler Attachment?
September 14, 2012, 01:55:15 PM
This came with a ripper bar that came with an OC46 I purchased. I can't figure out what it is or what it is for. Possibly it was included in error.
Any ideas, kind folks?

I was told this was from a Cletrac, but I have never worked on anything bigger than an E. Any ideas which model or models this belonged to?

Why the little slot in PTO Guards?

Trying to educate myself here. I have TONS of worn track frame hangers lying about. They seem to be a weak point in the OC3 HG design.
I have seen some kind of shim or bushing fall out of some that I have disassembled.

I presume the proper internal diameter would equal that of the trunnion or 'boss' at the back of the final drive cover.

1. Is that the same diameter (inner and outer track frame hanger)?
2. How best to refurbish these for re-use?

Thanks in advance.
