Hi Keith , A couple more places to try in the US . IPD and Hastings .
This is some advise given on another forum  regarding old Caterpillar rings .

If you Anit doing the engine rebuilding yourself, and your engine builder didnt get any help from Hastings, IPD is World Famous for after-market Parts for many Engine Manufactures, You might need your Engine Re-Builder to Set-Up an ACCOUNT with IPD and Hastings Also to Get Tech Help and Support from both Outfits, Its the AMERICAN WAY, They want to add you to there mailing list and Known Who you Actually ARE !!.
.
Seems some places are greatvia Email enquiries , others hopeless .Atleast with emails our Aussie accents are not a problem .

Hi Mark , Welcome to the forum . I had not heard of 8 volt batteries,so i googled it  and found they are used in golf carts etc .
I would not think the tractor had 8 volt originally .Maybe someone has put one in thinking it may boost the 6 volt starting .
I am sure one of the regulars will be able to confirm the correct battery for your machine .
