Title: HG No oil in oil filter
Post by: HOG on May 18, 2005, 01:24:35 AM
There is no oil in the oil filter on my HG. The tube is there. I pulled the filter off started the engine and no oil coming out. Behind the filter is 2 plugs. Removing the lower plug oil flows out. No oil out the top plug. Removing the relief valve th espring is there but no ball. The tractor carries 30lbs or better oil pressure cold but drops some when warms up. Any suggestions????
Thanks

I just checked mine, and i seem to have the same problem. I found the spring to be broken and the ball was stuck fast.  I think the spring and ball is only a relief valve setup. In the situation than the oil filter becomes cloged. the oil will still pass.  I also have oil pressure at the gage. this is adjustable at the rounded nut on the front left side on the motor. remove the cap nut and loosen the locknut and adjust the slotted screw in for a little more oil pressure if desired.  30 to 40 should be ok, the book recommends 40.  as soon as i replace the spring and clean everything out, I hope to find the problem. I will post a reply then.
good luck

I belive I found the problem, I had a break in the gasket between the two oil passage holes, where the oil filter adaptor mounts on the block. I made a new gasket and reinstalled it and I had oil flowing thru the filter. While it was apart I made sure all the passages were open but did not find any blockages.
good luck
