I have just acquired a new toy. The man told me it was a 1947 or 1948 Oliver oc 3 and was originally orange. From what little I know about these is The Cletrac HG was the only one that was orange, and I didn't think they made the oc 3 until 1951. The frame has been replaced and there is no tag on the new frame. So my questions are Can some one tell me the year and model this is? The engine has a tag by the carb. IXA 3 3 X 4 675469 008 006, there is also numbers on the bell housing 27469 D. Any Info would be helpful, I have had a lot of fun with this thing so far just would like to know more about it. Thanks
You are doing very well. IF the engine is original it is a very early HG. The IXA engine was used at the start of production and without me looking it up, was gone by the start of the War. You are also correct in that the OC-3 was introduced in 1951. Look behind the mag for some casting dates. Hercules serial numbers also run in different groups. This is not a good week for me to check on that, maybe the end of next week on that issue.
Thanks for the info. The casting numbers behind the mag are 28352 E 122639. The man I bought it from said they rebuilt the engine in the mid 80s but used the same block. So if it was changed out it would be befor 1950.
Your 122639 is the date the block was cast. I want to thank you for that information too. At the same time that Cletrac made the HG they also built the Cletrac General wheel tractor. Of course they used the same engine in both and less than 100 of the wheel tractors were built with the IXA engine. So yout tractor would be an early 1940 model. Send me a PM I have other questions. Thanks.
