I found a DG Cletrac that isn't in bad shape other than the engine is froze up to no extent. I know where there is a 471 detroit diesel engine. I can buy both very reasonable so... Think I could make a DGMD? DGMD = D model with GM diesel.

The DG engine is rated for 70 HP at 1300 RPM If the 471 is close to that then the conversion should work. I don't have ratings for the 471 handy.
I found some old ratings for the 471. 79hp at 1600 rpm, that would be about 64 hp at 1300. Also gave a max rating of 104 hp but no rpm. So this engine would be a good fit. Newer engines may be rated a little higher, as these engine were built for a long time for lots of different applications. Now as for the D model the original low gear was 1.7 mph an optional 1.45 was available and this became standard some time between 1951 and 54. That is a difference of 25% so if you have an older machine with the 1.7 low gear the machine should handle an increase of 25% in hp. I would be careful adding any HP if you have the low speed gear set! Hope this helps you a little.
Yeah I figured I might have to be careful. If need be I will just set the governed speed down a little to be sure. If anything it should be easier on fuel and will sound real awesome. ut a big stack on it...The neighbors will LOVE it. LOL
