I'm a volunteer at the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum located in Vista , CA. I'm just starting the restoration of a 1928 Cletrac 20. I'm talking primarily  cosmetics...the tractor runs and operates very well. The engine is a Hercules.

I would really appreciate any and all input as to original colors. A couple of places that look original are a medium green. A review of this web site, however, mentions several colors, but not green.

Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

This is, in effect, a reply to myself.

Since I posted my original plea for help, I've had discourse with both Blake and Travis Zimmerman. They agree my tractor is a Model 20 "C". In that case, according to an original data sheet from Cletrac, my tractor can be no older than a 1933.

They also agree the authentic color is the two tone tan and brown combination.

One last question: where might the serial number be found? The only data plate I've found is on the right side of the engine cowling, but it contains nothing but a list of patents. A separate data plate on the engine identifies the Hercules OOC.

Any input?

Woody, that plate on the side - behind the engine and in front of the fuel tank - should have the serial number stamped. Did they fail to stamp it there? There should be a spot for the sn.

I know of no other place where a serial number would be stamped on those, but there still could be. Maybe someone else would know.

My 20 C has the patent plate which has no place for a serial number to be stamped on it. I can send a pic of it to you Blake.

by the way what was on the plate that was mounted on the end of the gas tank? parts book says its an instruction manual. mine is missing but you can see where the rivets are.

That is where the serial number and model number is. It also has alot of instrustions on it for the tractor and service info.

The plate is missing from the end of my gas tank, too.

Would it be possible for someone to copy that plate, photo or otherwise, and post a legible copy? Those instructions would be very useful.
