Title: Repower BGSH
Post by: fcinsrc on June 25, 2005, 01:51:14 AM
Hello, what other engines will work in my BGSH?  Maybe the better question is what other units used the same Herc 6cyl?

First find out what is leaking. It may be less expensive to repair what you have. Then I would consider another JX Hercules. Now remember you are talking about a unit (the crawler) that was made at leat 50 years ago and Hercules is not cranking out new engines either.  As far as the repower, the nicest looking one I have seen in a B model Cletrac was a 354 Perkins. It fit nice and looked good whoever did the work. How hany  are you at machineshop type work. There are Hercules engines out there to be purchased.

Our BGSH has an MG-1 engine. I'm not sure what model of Hercules that is.

John, working on tracking down that leak, possible cracked exhaust port?  Not sure what else it could be.  As for machine shop work, I am inexperienced, my dad has been doing tool and die for almost forty years, I think he could handle just about anything.
BTW:  I am used to working with machines that are old, most of my vehicles are 40-60 years old.

It could be as simple as a head gasket.
