Hi,
My name is Josh and i am currently taking an Engine srv. class at my high school in south western pennsylvnia. Our teacher has brought in an old, what we beileve to be a 1941 Cletrac.Its is a crawler and we think the engine(4 Cyl.) was made by hercules. Me and a few other students are in charge of the engine and we were wondering if there is any diagrams ou there that have all the parts, gaskets, assembly order, etc. out there to make this project easier. The tractor is in bad shape and any links, stores in the pittsburgh area, pictures or any help of that sort whould be very appriciated.

Josh, give us some more clues so we can help you identify the machine. How big is it? Is it diesel or gas?

well its real big. couldnt find any numbers on it or anything but its 4 cyclinder has orange paint and green paint on it mostly chipped off or rusted. I bieleve it runs on gas but wouldnt know because its in pieces. looking at the specifications like it looks alot like the 2nd one in on this image http://www.cletrac.org/media/pictures/s ... EHG_ED.jpg (http://www.cletrac.org/media/pictures/specs/spec_EG_EHG_ED.jpg) the one with EHG above it(sry that i dont know anything about tractors). If you want me to measure aything on it or find anything that will give a model number i can do that tommorow. Our Teacher is a huge tractor buff and has a few cletracs and he looked for number and couldnt find any. We are also missng a crank shaft and pistons.

Josh,
Look on the front of the firewall for a serial number and model number tag. This would be on the carburetor side if it's a gas engine. There may also be a tag or number stamped on the side of the engine block.
From what you say so far, it sounds like it's either a model E or a model A Cletrac.

We got a 1941 HG cletrac user manual and its pretty exact but since most of our parts are missing its real hard to tell any pictures of the 41 herculeas engine?
Hey everyone its been a busy last 2 weeks and we have assesed most ofo ur parts but are a long way from being done. We only have 40 minutes a day for 9 weeks to work on this to try and get this done. WE need alot of price and don't have a lot of money. Does any one have or know where i can get tehse parts:
Oil Pan head slotted head screws
Oil Pan Gasket
Gasket at base of oil filter
Filter Cartidge
2 Cap screws holding oil Pump
Oil pump to block Gasket
Felt washer and metal washer
Fuel Lines
Carburetor pipe
Tappet cover Gasket
Grinding compound
Girinder
Valves-Intake an exhaust
If anyone has pictures of these things or any Pics of a 1941 Cletrac engine it would be a big help cause ours is in peices.

We also are missing pretty much all of our bolts for our oil pan and stuff so we are looking for those too any dimensions we need to know to order them?
Call Zimmermans's (717)-738-2573 they will have a hole gasket kit for the engine and most likely help you out with the other parts. I know NAPA has the valves and grinding compound but don't know the part number. It has been discussed here before try a search of the other posts and you should be able to find the part number. I have some picks I can send tomarrow of my 39 HG
The capscrews for the oilpan are just standard - I think 5/16 or 3/8 - don't remember. If you want a slot in them, cut the slots with a hacks saw.
The oil filter cartridge is not a throw away. Just take it out and clean it well in kerosene.

Hey Josh, you never did tell us what model this is, so it makes it diffucult to tell you what parts you need.
Well i think its an HG model. thats the maual we have and its pretty much the same even looks the same its a herculeas 4 cyl. engine too if that helps
If it's an HG, then the oil filter is replaceable. NAPA has them.
If the gas tank is like a big round, slightly squashed ball, then it's an HG or OC-3.

Josch: Look on the left side of the engine block near the top center on the side. There will be a flat spot and Hercules will have stamped the model number and serial number of the engine in that location if it is an engine for an HG or the replacements. If you need NAPA or Fedral Mogul part numbers for the valves I have them. Napa will also have the pan gasket but not the head gasket. AGCO also still has gaskets for these engines. Questions?
The gas tank is a small kinda sqaushed ball and we did find some parts we could get at NAPA. WE also found a herculeas stamped number on the governor and a number ill get teh number later today and post it tonight. we also got a full gasket kit so i think we are good on gaskets.
