Title: 1945 AG-6... Need help in Idaho!
Post by: Rod sumner on February 01, 2006, 03:14:59 AM
We just got a 1945 AG-6. We had to start it about 20 times to get it on the trailer. It just kept dying. After we got it home, the starter would run, but it wouldn't turn the motor. I pulled the starter out, and the front was broken clean off, shaft and all. I ordered a new housing and armiture today -- should get them tomorrow, so I can get this baby off my trailer!
My question is:
Is anyone out there with main spring assemblies [part # 16840] or a parts tractor? Someone has put square tubing in place of the springs. [Seems to work? I guess...?] Also, I need a seat, side-shield assemblies, right rod that's like a torsion bar or strut under the tractor so the track assembly can go up and down [can't find it in the parts book], and maybe a battery box? Or if there's a parts tractor within a 1-mile radius????
Thanks!
I just love this site!

Rod,
Years ago, I had a broken suspension spring on my AG-6.  Since then, thru this site, I found that Zimmerman has most parts, and may be able to supply you with them.  At the time, I just drew up shop drawings and went to a local truck spring shop -- they were able to make them up for me no problem.  Fit perfectly, sits level - and I had to match the replacement to the height of the other spring.

I have the drawing available if you need it.

Thank you, John!  I may take you up on that... if I can't find any.  I need the whole stack -- both sides are completely missing!  I'll call Zimmerman and let you know what he says....  I've gotten side-tracked... picked up an Oliver OC-6 with no reverse....  [Another project...:) ]  Do you know anything about these gear boxes???
Thank you,
Rod

The OC-6 is the  crawler version of the Oliver 77 wheel tractor. Do you have first gear? It may be as simple as the gear shift handle is not correctly installed or a broken shift rail or a losse fork. First and reverse are the same gear just in two positions. I guess you could have an idler problem, never seen one though, there were probably a 100 model 77 tractors around here so the chance of it to me would be slim. Questions?
