Title: OC-3 Starter
Post by: gjwiepz on February 14, 2006, 04:33:59 PM
I was having starter problems on my OC-3 with the starter engaging so I had the started rebuilt and it spins great but it still has a problem engaging with the fly wheel.  It will start to spin and maybe after a second or two it will then throw the gear into the flywheel or just continue to spin. I am concerned that it will chip the gear or the flywheel.

Inspection of the drive doesn't reveal anything bad.  Would  a spacer between the nut and the main spring help?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

are you using a 6 volt battery ? is so clean the drive and shaft good and oil where the drive rides on the shaft.it only takes a small amount of build up to keep the drive from engaging.
