hi iv just got hold of a BDH thats fitted with a britstand dozer loader the tractor was DOA when i got it due to a stuck fuel pump igot the fuel pump fixed up and was told it was worn but it would work the problem i hav is it will not start or even smoke iv pulled out and tested the injectors the pressure was up around 200 bar i reduced this to 110 bar to compesate for pump wear they still hav good atomisation iv pulled of the timeing case and checked the timeing the pump drive was one tooth out i fixed that the engine will start using ether but when you open up the throtle the engine picks up very slowly 6 or 8 seconds with very little smoke and it stalls just picking the blade up iv adjusted the pump timing but it doesnt make a lot of diffence iv heard of a popular modification to the injector shrouds wich involvs drilling them out apperently this inproves them no end the pump is a roosemaster DPA type does any one have a copy of the correct timeing procedure ? and did the herc engines start very well from cold? any help would be greate

O. K. I had to read this twice. You say a Roosa Pum[p,type DPA. There is no Roosa DPA. The BD sometime in say about 1952 could be had with a Rosa Master Model A pump. This pump became the basic design for the CAV DPa when it was sold off. Now some of those engines are also timed on number 6 instead of number one. How about some more details.

when i go back to my yard on the weekend i will get some numbers this might shed some more light on my problem you are right about the pump it looks the same as a cav pump .how will i know wich end tha engine is timed from ?the bell housing has a small inspection hole in it on the water pump side of the engine where i can just make out D.C or a least thats what i think it says i appreceate your intrest in this mater regards big dipper

the trouble i was having was due to a very worn fuel pump it was just not pumping enough fuel to run the engine i went in to my local truck wrecker and got a cav pump of a bedford 466 engine the pump had a different rotation but for $20 i wasnt worryd i changed the head and rotor leaving the roosa cam in place i had to change the head drive its hard to belive every thing fits any ways the tractor starts good pushes like a D7 and smokes like a D9 iv just got to cut the fuel back a bit
