Title: Final drive problem?
Post by: erik on November 19, 2002, 10:32:04 PM
Noticed something today that worries me.
The left final drive filler plug seemed to be to close to the sprocket and therefore it has been milled down, see picture.

The left inner support bracket has a big gap between it and the spacer hold by the two bolts, see picture next mail.

Right side looks great.

Do I have a final drive problem or is it a simple adjustment the cure?

Erik

Erik, there is a good chance that the sprocket lug Nuts have loosed themselves.
Remove the outer hub cover and have a look.
If thay have loosed unbolt the outer Track frame bracket after supporting the axle first.
Hopefully you don't have any broken studs.
Torque the nuts down to the spec in the instructions manual, I'm not sure what thay are off the top of me head.
Or you may have a bad bearing.
Take care, be safe.

Hi Erik!

On my OC-3 the plugg looks the same and i have not any slack on the wheel
probably when  you work in mud it stucks
on inside of the disk and maby a stone have been in the mudd and it been milled
down.

Where in sweden are you located?
I have a workshop book if you need some pages i could copy them.

Crawler Boy makes a good piont.
Be sure that you don't have something stuck in between the sprocket and housing.
The track frame may "wobble around" and move on the pivot pionts.
The Srocket itself should not change its position in relation to the drive housing other than to revolve forward and reverse.
These sprockets have a tendency to loosen or the lug studs to break off once the nuts have loosend a little.
You should be checking these at regular intervals, say every oil change or the like.
Is your axle hub bent? Have someone watch The sprocket while you drive it around.
Hope this helps.

George Gibby:)

Finaly back on track!
Repared the stop button today, lucky I had an extra magneto with everything that was missing from the working one.

I also checked the sprocket nuts and they seem to be OK but when I drive it around the rear wheel shaft is moving in and out. (see picture above)

I think I have a major bearing problem or/and the nut holding the trunnion is loose.

I think I can handle the problem by looking in the detailed owners manual or do I have to have a workshop manual?

Crawler Boy, can you make a copy of the "Final drive" section in the workshop manual?
