Title: Governor problem
Post by: Tractornut on August 31, 2006, 12:25:25 AM
I can't get my General to run a steady rpm at anything over half throttle. It wants to rev hard & shut down, rev hard & shut down. Suggestions, anyone?

Have you had the governor assembly out of the tractor? How have you adjusted the linkage. How much wear do you have on the pins and clevis in the linkage? If you take the weight assembly out see how good the bearings are and how good are the bearings? Start there and let us know.

There is very little wear in the governor weights, and the linkage is all new. The problem started when I shortened the spring that connects the linkage to the governor arm. Before it would barely open the carb up above idle. Now it brings the engine up to about the right rpm, but after a few seconds it starts fluctuating.
