Title: Diesel for OC-3
Post by: Anthony on March 30, 2007, 01:48:54 AM
Hello,
I am just poking here. I am wondering if anyone has tried to mate a diesel to an hg or oc3. If so, what kind did you use. I would imagine a tractor motor or something similar. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to what i should look at getting? I would like something a little more than the 21 horse the hercules puts out but the torque is what im after. I would like to have a small enough engine that i wouldnt have to cut into the sheet metal any. Id also like to have a heavier engine to weight it down more. It seems to me a diesel accomplishes most of these. I also love the concept, and workings of diesel engines.
Any input is well appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthony

I saw an HG with a diesel in it . They used a small 4cyl ford industrial diesel. I do not  remember the model of the engine but it was a nice fit without cutting any sheet metal . You  do not want anything will a lot more power than original to avoid final drive and frame problems .

Yes, i agree that higher horses would put a considerable amount of stress on the diffrential and propeller shaft. I have seen a lot of ford 3 cyl. diesels around here but dont think that, surprisingly, i have come across a 4cyl. Maybe if i look a little harder though.

Also, Does anyone have any links to an hg or oc-3 bit that has most everything? I have some parts but would like a more complete tractor for ease of changing it over and having it work in less time.

Thanks,

Anthony

We have an HG with an Oliver 77 engine. It would pull a 3 bottom plow and apparently handed the power ok.

Also remember Ford was looking at Cletrac and one was built with an older Ford 4 cylinder diesel. If you talked to Streakers or maybe you have rememember a 201 Ford will have more power and torque than a IXB Hercules.

John,

Do you mean streaker tractor inc. at findlay?
I have thought of the other fords as well. Seems that the massey fergusons would be too big and bulky to adapt. I really liked the oliver diesel conversion idea.

Thanks again,
Anthony

This is a little off the subject but a friend of mine owns a Cletrac model F that has a John Deere model L engine and sheet metal on it . He researched it through John Deere and they said that several were built for experimental purposes .Supposedly only two did not return to the factory . Does anyone have any more info about this ?
