I got a new water pump for my 1940 BD. It appears to be a WW II surplus pump and came coated with and wrapped in cosmoline. My problem is that the pump is stuck on the bearing end near the cam gear. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any thoughts on how to unstick the shaft without damaging the pump?
I've had the bearing end in paint thinner for two days and it's still stuck. It appears I'll have to remove the impellor and gently press the shaft out of its housing unless someone has a better idea.

Day three with the bearing end in paint thinner and the shaft still won't budge. I'll wait a few days before removing the impeller and using a press. I'm a little cautious because this is a $500.00 water pump.

After more than a week soaking in paint thinner and one attempted to free the shaft in 230 degree motor oil, the water pump was still stuck -- really stuck! I packed it up and sent it back to the supplier to be unstuck. At $500.00 I could not risk damage to the pump by excessive force. I'll post how all this turns out when I get the pump back in about two weeks.
If you work on these machines and are in a hurry to "git it done" you have probably picked the wrong hobby.

You are right about the patience thing. Next time you are in a hurry to get something unstuck just remember how long it took to get that stuck. It didn't happen overnight and it won't unstick in 1hour.

I got the water pump back. It is unstuck but takes about 80 Ft/Lbs of torque to turn it. After a short run in period it should spin a lot more freely.

As much as we try, we can't ALWAYS resolve every issue. It's who weighs in and what they know.
We'll try harder next time!
