Just had the magneto on my OC-3 rebuilt. The spark was weak and the engine would die when heated and start when it cooled a little. Seemed to be getting gas ok. The mag was rusty and I figured that was the problem. What I didn't know was the difference between a mag and one that had been converted to run off a coil like a distributer. I have now have a rebuilt mag ready to run on its own and think that the rust and moisture were giving me trouble.
I bring up the timing mark on the flywheel (SPK) very close to TDC on #1 cylinder. With the white line in the mag window the lugs should match up with slots on the governor. They do, sort of. To make it happen I have to pull back on the governor arm which pushes governor face and slots toward the magneto and engages the lugs. The white line centers in the window but all is not well. Unless the governor rod arm is held or wired forward the governor does not push aft and engage the magneto lugs. Am I missing something simple or could there be problem with the governor? Any suggestions?
I think you have timing issues. I always rotated the impulse coupler to match the govner that's has #1 TDC, then timed the mag to the rotor.
Check out this site and look-up your mag for the timing instructions..
It helped me to understand what exactly a mag is doing. I've got 4 under my belt, rebuilt myself.. Blind luck, I guess..LOL..
