Title: I need some serial number help on my HG.
Post by: PIPER68 on September 07, 2007, 12:50:52 AM
My data plate is in very bad shape on the HG 42 I just bought . Can anyone  help me figure out what I have ? The best I can tell from the corroded plate on the right side of the bell housing is  HG4240 ,  G or maybe 0 , 2 or possable 3 ,  14.  So it would read like this " HG42G214 " is this a good number and is there a s/n anywhere else on the tractor to check ?   The number on the right side of the engine block is 1 or maybe a 4  then XK . so it would read like "1XK" or "4XK" . There is also a number on the Wico mag  1113 . Also one on the A.C. Anderson blade frame right side top that reads S/N HG 1331 . Can you buy an original replacement data plate if I can figure out what the right serial Number is ?

Thanks,

Your line with HG42 is the model Number  the serial # should be below that . The engine model is IXK  .Also the mag # is correct for the tractor ,XH1113. I have stayed in Vandalia several times . I was there in July  during the Oliver Heritage show in Greeneville  and will probably return for the Auman auction during Thanksgiving .

Walt has you headed in the right direction. What is the shape of your tag? I have seen a tag for a 46 and a 47 model that were a little different in shape Than later tags. Later tags are like wheel tractor tags. IXK engines were used till say early 1950. I have a bulletin somewhere that gives that information. John

It is pretty bad shape . I took it off and held it in differrent light and I think I can tell that it say HG4240GA214 . The plate is shaped like the Oliver sign ( sheild like shape ) . Talked with Landis and he  compared my engine serial and confirmed it as a 1948 model . Im looking for parts right now I need a good fuel tank , seat springs , grill , belt pulley , manifold , air intake cap , and battery box cover with hold down bolts . Also might need one rear sprocket and a better set of tracks if they should come along and the angle link for the anderson blade and two blade pins . If anyone has a line on these parts or would like to sell some please let me know .

Thanks for the help.
