Title: Lubricating
Post by: Dave H on January 19, 2003, 08:37:43 AM
Hi all, I recently aquired my Cletrac here in Australia and according to the service manual, the button head lube fittings on the track frames etc. require oil not grease - it looks like the coupling nor the pump is available here - would grease with a conventional fitting do? Thanks,
Dave

Yes David you can use a  good grade of greese in your greese gun after the parts get a bit worn the heavy lube oil starts too leak out around the seals and bushings on the track wheels but regular greese will work you can get a button fiting at NaPa stores in The US that will fit your hand greese gun for the heavy gear oil sorta pricey tho about 27.00 in the US I have one on order mabe this will help some. I prefer to stay with the recommended weight oil.
The button connector is available from Zimmerman in the US if you can't get it there.  Just put it on a standard grease gun with the correct oil in it.

No, don't use grease unless the seals are so bad that the oil runs right out. The proper oil is 50 weight. If it won't stay in, use something heavier, but not grease.

Blake, Sounds like they run the same as a Range Rover gearbox anything too heavy and the bushes wont get lubricated
