hello,
i just bought a motor from landis zimmerman and it has a 24 volt generator on it. i presently have a 12 volt system on the dozer and want to know what i would have to do to change it to a 24 volt system..
I believe you can use two 12 volt batteries with a series/parellel switch that will connect them in series for 24 volt starting and connect them parallel for 12 volt charging. I think that is how my uncle's 977 Cat is set up.

can i use the same coil that is on the machine or do i have to put something special on it ?
Those Series Parallel switchs are a real pain in the ass. You can use the 24 volt generator with the two batteries but you have to have a coil with a built in resistor.. The lights also have to have 24 volt bulbs.
The best solution would be to get a 12v generator .

someone told me that i could have this generator changed to 12 volts. is this true and is it expensive to do ?
What type generator do you have ? I have had several changed from 6 to 12v .
it is a delco remy 24 volt. i have the dozer set up for 12, but with the generator that came with the engine i can get rid of the alternator. i dont like where it sits on the machine and there seems to be and issue with rpms.
is there a way i can have the 24 volt generator changed to 12 volt ? if so is it expensive ? thanks
