Title: DDH Overheating
Post by: Ralphie on December 02, 2007, 06:17:14 AM
My DDH Hercules powered dozer is overheating, I suspect the thermostat is crook as the top radiator hose is much hotter than the bottom hose. Where abouts on these motors is the thermostat situated ? I have taken the top hose flange apart and the bottom elbow on the water pump off but can't see any thermostat. Thanks for a very helpfull website.

The top hose should be hotter than the bottom hose . Flow is into the radiator through top and out through the bottom . If the tstat is not in the top water neck it was probably removed years ago . Is your radiator core clean inside and out?

I looked in my book and it said the theromstat is in the engine water outlet as walter said. It also said the fan belt could be slipping and need some attention. The rad. is plugged would be my guess.  It would be best to take it off turn it upside down and flush it out through the bottom rad port. We have sometimes taken an airhose blowgun and assisted in the cleaning.
