I just got the 25 home this afternoon. Pretty uneventful since my friend Chris came by with his heavy equipment trailer. 7000 just wasn't going to work on my neighbor's car hauler.
The tractor is in very good shape as far as wear, sheetmetal and overall condition goes.......except that the engine is stuck. I'll start trying to unstick it as soon as possible. It was in the huge fires out here last fall but it just seems to have burned rubber and soft stuff that wasn't already gone. It looks like the fire hadn't been real hot.
The guy I got it from had bought the property just before the fire and the tractor was there at the time. He knew nothing of it's history.
I'd sure like to see some close up photos of other 25s if anybody has them. It would be nice to get a serial number but so far I can't find anything, so if someone knows where to look that would help too.
It's a beautiful tractor and I will restore it as time allows. I'll have to start looking for manuals and information on this since I've just had HG's until now.
Any help on the above questions would be greatly appreciated......I'm sure to have more questions as I progress.

Looks like it is in real good shape. Doesn't look like it burn't too bad like you said. The 25 is almost the same as a BG. The tinwork is obviously different and so it the undercarriage. The 25 I have has a completely shot BG UC on it. The engine is also stuck.
The serial number should have been on a plate on the side of the gas tank. I think alot of them got knocked off, fell off or something of that nature. There should be a tag on the engine. You can get the number off that. I don't remember what side it is on but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Sad news...... I pulled the head off the 25. Yuck. Apparently the cans over the exhaust and air intake were only recently added. This thing has had water in it for a long, long time. Many of the valves are about about half or less intact. Don't know what sort of damage there may be down below.
The dipstick is full to overflowing with oil, so I suspect that there is a lot of water there too. Probably the same with the transmission and final drives. It did roll easily so things aren't jammed up past the clutch. I'm sure more will be revealed. The steering brakes also seem to be fine.
Looks like it will be a MAJOR engine overhaul! The engine is a Hercules JXC......anyone know of a parts source for them??? The rest of the tractor is in such good shape that it seems like it will be worth it to fix it up.
I ordered manuals so I'll know what goes on with it when I go to work.

It looks really good Mike. I think if I were you, I'd look for a B with a worn-out undercarriage that runs good. They're plentiful and you can probably get one for less than rebuilding that engine.

Meanwhile, I bought operators and parts manuals from Jen-Sales. They are ok for what they are, but the parts book is nothing more than a written description and a numbers list.
Does anyone know if they had a service manual that would have some drawings or some better descriptions?

A lot of those old parts books do not have pictures. Also some were combined with other books. I will look and see what I have next week when I am back home.

They should have the same engine - JXC or JXD which is a little bigger inside.
My wireless modem failed on Friday so I have not been able to get online until tonight.
