Hello all you Cletrac fans. I am a Caterpillar D2 guy but I have located a Cletrac AG6H which I think I am in love with. The undercarriage is poor, and the owner says in a turn it will walk right out of the tracks. Couldn't the track tension be increased to stop this? Both sprockets are terribly worn and one has a cracked spoke. Is there any source for finding a decent one as well as other parts like the air cleaner and the seat, both of which are rusted beyond use. The engine has been replaced. Any one want to guess what I should pay for this liitle beauty?
John,
Welcome to the Cletrac group. AG6 parts are readily available - try Zimmermans - they will have anything you'd need for an AG6. I've bought from them many times and always get great service on my AG6.
About how much it's worth - some depends on where in the country you are, and what replacement engine it has.
The tracks are supposed to be loose - especially when compared to Deere or Cat machines. Since you know the undercarriage is poor, and it has a history of walking out of its tracks, check to see if any of the links are broken in those tracks.
Check out the AG6 photos on Cletrac.org. The H in AG6H stands for Hillside, which has a wider track for greater stability.
AG6's are easy to work on, easy to love!
I just picked up a parts AG6. I will sell parts off it. It has a decent sprocket and an air cleaner. The tracks might be sold so I'll let you know on that.
If the tracks are so shot to not even stay on it isn't worth alot. If the engine does not turn over it is worth even less. I personally wouldn't pay much more than junk price for it. About $65 a ton whole or about $200 a ton in 3 foot lengths. It is a good starting place. I guess I always start there because if it doesn't pan out at all you can get your money back out of it.
Mostly it depends on how badly you want it.
Good luck,
Bob
