Hi. Does anyone out there know the part numbers for ignition pieces off of the three cylinder Hercules?
I am looking for:
Points
Condenser
Router
Distrubutor cap
Thanks
Kevin
Delco Remy numbers are Cap 1942428 Rotor 1883500 Points 1855720 Condenser 1900272 These numbers come from the Oliver 1960 parts book. Don't know if they are still available, but a dealer may be able cross them to something else.
Robert:
Thank you. That helps a lot.
I see you are from B.C. too. I am just outside of Vernon. There are a lot of HGs and OC-3s around here, but not many OC - 4 or 46s. My father has an OC-3.
Kevin
Yes I saw that you were in BC as well.
Have not come accross many OC 3's or HG's around here mostly the larger machines. Here on the North island logging is the largest Industry, and since we get 150 inches a year of rain the trees are large too.
I would like to get an OC 4 loader someday but have not found one yet.
I looked to no avail for the distributor cap but found the points and condensor with the above part numbers. I called Landis Zimmerman and he told me no one he new of still made the cap but, he was using a cap for a six cylinder. You just use every other hole for the plug wires and cap off the ones not used. I don't remember the NAPA part number he gave me for the six cyl. cap but can find it if you need it. If you do manage to find a three cyl. cap somewhere please let me know.

Eric:
Yeah, no luck on the caps. This OC-46 has a six cylinder cap, three plugged from above. The bottom side has the three contacts " removed" somehow and filled in with silicone. I'm hoping the cap is still good. I have the points, condenser, and rotor on order from a local supply house.
I have no idea of the condition of the engine. I bought it as not running. I have compression, and have freed up the valve train. I figure I will get it running then see what needs to be fixed. I assume it will need an entire engine rebuild. I am hoping the drive train is in useable shape.
The OC-46 had a 12volt battery in it. The points and rotor were quite burnt. I believe it is supposed to have 6 volt system. So the 12 volts probably kept burning the points. I will try and get it running, probably with a resistor to knock it down to 6volts to the coil.
Robert:
I saw in a previous post that you had a track press. Or did I mix things up? If so, have you used it much? My father has an OC-3 that we may repin and put new bushings in in a year or two. Zimmerman's has the pins and bushings at a decent price, but where to find a track press? I rember years ago on the farm in Alberta repining parts of an Alis Chalmers HD-7 with a simple rig we had made. It was a lot of work, but it worked. I could probably rig something up. But that is a later project. First to get the OC-46 runing.
Kevin
Yes I do have a track press. I have the engine out and apart for a valve and ring job over the winter. I have some track work to do for my DG this summer. I have some OC 3 tracks so will look and see if I have the dies for them. Would you have the shoes on or off the tracks?
The OC4 3G was originally 6 volt positive ground, you would need a series resistor for the coil but the 6 volt starter would be fine on 12 volts.
Robert:
Hi. I would leave the shoes on. We have two sets of tracks for the OC-3. So we would have to decide which ones to rebuild. I would rather not have to remove the shoes then bolt them back on.
Yeah. I will use the series resistor method. This is just to get it started. I would rather leave it at ther original 6 volts, if I could. But if i have to do any generator work, I would probably convert it to 12 volts. My father converted his Oc - 3, and a Case VAO to 12 volts.
Kevin
If you have two sets of tracks you want to re pin and bush the best set. measure the link height, that is from the back face of the shoe to the top face that rides on the rollers. The highest links are the least worn and those are the ones to rebuild. I have some new links, I will measure them and give you the new size for reference.
As far as the 6 volt 12 volt things goes, if you are fixing this up as a show tractor 6 volts is ok. If you what to use this for some work going to 12 volts is much better. The starter will last longer because it will turn the engine over much faster and it will start faster so you have less run time on the starter. Also going to a 12 alternator is the best route, it keeps the battery well charged, but is also easier on the battery since the electronic voltage regulator in the alternator is much more sensitive it regulates the voltage much better and does not over charge the battery.
Robert
We have the OC-3 with a generator and alternator. The battery lasted a few years before we had to replace it. I can not remember how long. The Case has an alternator with built in electronic regulator. We just converted it this summer. So have to wait and see.

Hi:
I had a local partsman find me some ignition parts. I have them now. Here is what he found:
Points Standard DR2227P
Condenser Standard DR50
Rotor Standard DR158 also says V07250
He also provided a cap Standard DR413. The cap needs to be modified as it has holes for six plug wires.
