Hi, Has anyone put a snowblower on a hg or oc3 ? I have a oc3-42 with a meyers plow mounted in the bucket. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance DrD

Hi Folks: I thought about this post a bit before I responded.
With all of the expertise on this forum, I think this would be a really interesting project for all of us to work on and put our thoughts together.
I know with all of the talent that is on here that we can come up with a good Cletrac Snow Blowing Machine.
I am willing to make up a list of blowers that could be front mounted.
John Sweibert can you lend your hydraulic advice?
Hotratz could lend his excellent electrical technical info.
Landis, Ray and Blake could advise on the potential pitfalls.
Walter Hudson and JDemaris could provide details on fabrication and mounting.
Just thinking out loud.... can we all chip in and get this accomplished.

I don't have experience with the larger, 3-pt hitch mounted blowers, but I do have a front mounted Gravely blower on my Gravely riding garden tractor and it is amazing what it can do. I think this one is 38" wide and is shaft-driven. The fan blades are made from at least 3/8" steel and is about 16-18" in diameter. The discharge chute is about 10" in diameter and it can go from horizontal on one side to the other with a simple crank of the adjusting handle, so it can blow snow horizonatally either way.
It will easily blow heavy wet snow 60 feet or so. I know it will send it over my garage roof and will plaster snow to the top of a regular size phone pole if I want it to. This is with the power from a 12 HP Kohler.
I think Gravely also made a 44" blower of the same design as the one I have.
They no longer build these good snow blowers, and the later Gravely blowers are not much good in comparison.
A 44" blower could probably be mounted on a narrow HG, but the problem I see is ground speed. I think it would work fine if you have an auxiliary transmission. The blower could probably be widened as well.
Perhaps a larger blower made for a big farm tractor would be better as it may handle faster ground speeds and a higher feed rate?

This guy's blower has the chute adjusted with the deflector too low, so it inhibits the blower from shooting its maximum distance.

Hi folks -
I looked at putting a blower on mine way back when it was our primary snow removal unit.
Brother-in-law and I live at the top of an uphill 600 foot drive off the highway. And boy there were some cold nights on that little critter! Ofttimes the throttle would freeze from blowing snow, usually wide open....
But the 20 odd hp from the IXB, plus the non-live PTO, discouraged me, when I saw how hard a neighbour's MF 135 perkins (about 40 hp) had to work with a 5 foot blower.
Bro-in-law then got a jeep and we built a plow for it. It's been replaced by a couple of later 4wd's in the intervening 30 years. The OC-3 is now used to push back the banks when he gets bunged for space. It was laid up last winter..... Son's new 4wd 35hp Kioti with front end loader was used to push back. Took 3 times longer than old faithful!!!!

Boy, Wish I could help but were I live we only get on average 18-24 inches of snow at most and it's not around very long so you don't see a lot of snow blowers out here, Rarely do you even see a plow unless it's on the front of a county vehicle.
My thought initially would be to have some sort of clutch and gearbox set-up on front driven from the front of the engine in place of the hydro pump ?? That's as far as I could take it not being familiar with how a blower is usually set up.

My next door neighbor has one. His is a 72 inch width model and of course it runs off the PTO. You move very slow to blow snow. He also has it on his tractor usually the 130 horse power one. You will need different travel speeds than what an HG has. I think you might need to allow 1 horse power for each inch width of snow blower. It also depends how deap the snow is and how wet it is.
