I own a 1948 AD Cletrac with three speed forward and one reverse, geared for farming. It has a home made dozer blade that my uncle had put on it. There is an AD 6Z178 in a scrapyard in Ontario that looks like it has a factory ware loader on it. My question is: would this AD 6Z178 with the factory ware loader be geared the same as the one I have. Thanks in advance for any help on this.
I think the Gearing of the A model was the same all through out it's production. The only models I know have optional speeds were the D and F models.
They did have different gearing. I don't know what models or years but they did have different gears. Bill Bechtold and I were talking and he said that they changed some gears in their AD to make it a little faster in second and reverse maybe lower in first I don't know. It has been a while. I need to call him anyway and I'll ask.

OK heres the scoop on AD gearing. As far as we know, all ADs had the same gearing. There was an optional second gear. It could be ordered with or the dealer could put it in. The new second gear is like 15% slower than third. It increases pulling power over third by 25%. It was used mostly in farm tractors for pulling plows and discs, ect. The new second gear also increased the speed in reverse.
So, you wouldn't know what the tractor had unless you had the original spec sheet (maybe) or until you ran it or tore it apart.
Hope this helps,
Bob
