Title: Need AG-6 Track adjustment help
Post by: Denis in MI on March 02, 2010, 02:07:38 PM
While out clearing brush with my Cletrac, That I believe is a AG-6 my left track came off the drive sprocket, The Right hand side is tensioned but the left was very loose. What I need to know is how to tension the track and how tight it should be. Since both tracks are the exact same I do not think one should be more worn than the other. I have not counted the number of links, but I believe they are the same. I know that the tracks are worn but for me they should be useable and I do not believe anything broke,"yet"

Thanks in advance, for any Help or opinions If I don't reply soon it is because I am trying to get the track back on because it is sitting on very wet groung that might start to thaw this afternoon,

Thanks,
Denis

The track run off all the time when turning, until I took the rock guard off and put it in a press bolted it back on. The rock guard was bent out, I put it back to 90 degrees on the outside my ag6h. It stays on all the time now. will send pic in am if needed

Hey Denis,

I've had the tracks come off the front idler, both inside and outside, never the back.  Hmmm.

I have learned that when a track is loose, I need to be very gentle when steering - quick "nudges" on the brake handles, and watch the tracks.  When they start to get off, back up and turn in the opposite direction to re-set them.  The biggest trick is never let them get all the way off!

How to get them back on - a come-along will be a big help. Of course, if you have another machine with hydraulics (like a backhoe) that can help considerably too when used with a chain to pull at the right angle.  If you're lucky you can drive it backwards to get it back on, but more than likely you'll need to pull the master pin to re-align the track with the drive gear.

Adjusting - there's a big nut under the cover (rear of center between the drive and idler wheels) that is used to adjust the tracks.  More likely than not, it is rusted in place. I've been soaking mine to try and loosen the nut on the shaft, with no luck yet.  Zimmerman's sells a plasma cut wrench to fit that nut - it has an offset opening.

Good luck!

I've had tracks come off the front, back, middle and even had the stinkin master pin come out at 11pm in the middle of a snowstorm. And yes it was about -10 degrees. (Actually a true story! I left it till spring!) The rock guards or track guides being in good shape helps ALOT. Track adjustment is as John said. The nuts can be a real pain. I had to tear my AD all apart to get them to move again. Its not a really hard job. If you know what your doing and had the right tools, it could be done in a day I would think.

The more worn the tracks are the tighter they will need to be . If the tracks are bending out the rock guards check your bottom rollers .A lot of times they roller edges become worn down because the rails get on top of the edges .
