Would someone please tell me how much gear oil the rear end of a cletrac W requires and what grade...thanks, gramps.
Gramps my 1926 w lube instruction book says diff housing is filled by removing filler plug on top of housing next to steering shaft. The correct level is at the center of the main driveshaft and care should be taken not to fill above this level. That is word for word book It also says fill with Gargoyle Mobiloil "C"what ever that is? or it says high grade gear oil No WT or amount listed.I have steering colum for W if thats what you need. Hopes this helps.
Thank you for the information, someone converted this one to levers it would take the top cover, steering wheel and shaft and what ever else to put it back, it also has a chevrolet 6-cylinder motor and 4-spd gear box...nice clean convert and works well...it would be a BIG job to put it back...i just want to drive it around and enjoy...what i really need is a front 5-spoke track sprocket/wheel..
Gramps, I would have a extra front track wheel for a W. Where are you located? I am in CT. Let me know Bill.
I would suggest 50 wt non-detergent engine oil. That's what most of the later tractors took. Some use a 90 wt gear oil. Just don't use any hypoid or extreme pressure oil.

Every one has been great answering my questions this is one great site...thank you very much!!!
gramps.
Bill I'm in Oregon...can you ship the wheel ?
gramps.
Gramps,I looked at the 2 front sprockets that I have and one has one spoke welded, and one has two spokes welded. If still interested I would take $50 plus shipping. Bill inCT.
Bill would the weld work ok for just driving around at the steam-in and my place...slow doing nothing stuff...if you think so let me know what shipping on the 1 spoke weld would be
gramps.
I'm gonna guess shipping to be $75 to $100. Lets see how close I got

Gramps, I looked at the sprokets again yesterday in day light, and now see both have been repaired in 3 spots. When I looked the other day it was at dusk, plus they are still on crawler. These repairs seem to have been done MANY years ago. and seem to be a decent job.Let me know if still interested. Thanks Bill in CT.

Have to find one some where so will go with which ever one you think is the best...it's not going to do anything but haul me with no attachments 2/3 times a year.
