Title: Track Press
Post by: kyle on July 26, 2010, 03:37:18 PM
I would like to turn the pins on the tracks of my OC3. Has anyone had any experience prssing the pins in and out? I run a steel shop and have access to a variety of small hydraulic power presses. I am considering making a fixture to press the pins in and out. Any thoughts or words of wisdom?

I have asked this same question at a local track shop that used to do OC-3's years ago. Their answer was: If they are not too badly worn, it is possible. If badly worn, there will be a burr on the pin that will not push through the link on the outside. Then they have to cut a section out of both the pin and bushing in between the links, and push them both toward the center. For the best up-to-date advice, I would call Zimmerman's and talk to Ray, Harold or Landis for the best tips.

Kyle,

Have you checked out the YTMag crawler site.

They have a discussion on track presses around page 6 (June 24 @ 20:10)

Thanks for the feed back. One of the guys at my work used to work on cat crawlers and we are making a fixture and pins to press everything out. When we get it all together I will post some pictures and let everyone know how it goes.
