Well, I have been both anticipating and dreading this, but I have started the overhaul on my 1940 HG 42. I was not planning on doing this till next summer/fall, but the motor has been getting louder over the last month so I decided to start, before it gets any worse. Glad that I did because the babbited rods were toast and 2 of the oil rings had disintegrated. The mains are in surprisingly good condition, as well as the crank, cylinders, pistons, cam, and valves. Thank goodness for Zimmermans, because they are the only ones that have the parts I need for my IXA3. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a larger motor, because it has an Anderson blade on it, but the used/remaned ones they have are a little too pricey for my wallet. Attached are a couple of pics of the tear down so far. I will keep posting updated pics as work progresses.

Well, I got the motor torn completely down tonight. The good news: The cam, cam bearings, gears, lifters, and valves look great. The cam bearings are the easy knock out type, so the will be easy to replace. The bad news: The main bearings are shot. I know that I can get new replacement rods and rod bearings from Zimmermans, but does anyone know if they carry some sort of replacement main bearings/caps to replace the old style poured babbit bearings? Just wondering.
