My OC-3 Ware loader has no down presssure on the bucket. It lifts just fine and has up/down pressure for tilting the bucket.
Is this normal for the Ware 3 loader?
I know some 2 spool valves designed for loaders include a "float" position on one of the spools using a detent for floating but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
Is it likely the valve is worn or am I missing something? The "plumbing" is consistant with an Allied FEL I have on my Ford Jubilee.
Stamped on the valve is "Built for Ware Machine Works Inc" Model V1DD44C S/N JB16601 Hydra Co Cleveland, Ohio so it appears to be original.
I'm looking to uproot some small trees and so far I just slide over the trunks.

I have the same loader and control valve on my HG and mine does not have float, on the machines that have a float position that I have used they had a has a detent to hold in position, so if it is returning to center I would say something is wrong with your valve. Is this the first time you have used the loader on your machine? If not was it working correctly before? I am not a expert in hydraulics but there are some on here that are and I'm sure they will chime in soon good luck.
Get yourself a 2000 PSI pressure gauge. Unhook the hose going to the rod of the cylinder and install the gauge in that port. Move the handle and see what pressure you get.

Good idea, I just ordered a 6000 PSI guage from Northern Hydraulics. First step will be to install a tee fitting right at the valve and see what I'm getting and then move it to each cylinder.
Any thoughts on how to bleed air from the lines once I brake connections? Do they bleed by themselves over time or do I loosen the fittings enough for air to pass, work the cylinder and then tighten them back up?

The air will work itself out when you cycle the hydraulics a few times.
Please be careful when operating the system for the first time if there is a possibility of air in the system. The action of the cylinders may be jerky and uncertain until the air works its way out. When I was an industrial truck mechanic, we would often rebuild hydraulic cylinders, when we put
them under hydraulic pressure for the first time, they would sometimes really jerk or jump until the air got out.
