Title: HG
Post by: countryguy828 on April 18, 2011, 10:59:17 PM
Hey guys,

Still haven't even started on the E yet and here I am looking at a HG.

The price is decent at $1000, supposed to run but low oil pressure. It has a hacked up blade on it that I would take off. Needs sheet metal. How hard will that be to come across?

Thanks,
Dave

I have or can get most sheet metal for an HG. Perfect stuff is hard to get and expensive when I get it, but if you don't mind a bit of filling/sanding, its easy enough to get most of it. Grill is most difficult but you get a new, sturdier version from Zimmerman's. NOt as nice as original but does the job. Here's one on one of my OC3s.

Those IXK or IXB Hercules run normally at low oil pressure, under 20 I think, so that may not be a problem. Most folks seem to assume they should run much higher.

I have some E parts too...

Good looking machine. How much do you think I am looking at for usable sheet metal? I can do some filler work.

It kinda looked like someone had tryed to make an Oliver 60 grill shroud fit it.

I think I am going to buy it. If I do I will post pics.

Thanks
Dave

What tin do you need? Grill, side panels or hood? Or all four pieces? I don't have fenders right now.

I will need Grill, Shroud, and Hood.

I wasn't really going to worry about fenders unless they are pretty cheap, which I doubt

Fortunatly the tank looks good

Cheap fenders: 1/8 steel sheet. Top rolled to an appropriate curve (single axis - no compound rolling), trimmed front and back to the curve matching the originals. And, of course, paint!

One of my OC-3s had these on it. Probably they were industrial.

Sounds like the repros Zimmermans sells. It would be pretty expensive to tool up to do the rolled edges on the fenders and grill but these repros do a fair job.

Did they ever make a heavier fender? I have a rather original OC-3 industrial with a dozer and it has heavy fenders without any lip at the edge. Either these are OEM, or someone did a great job making them.

where are you located? I may have some parts you seek....I have a hood (original . nice and stright but with some pitting) front grill (looks like a repop) and side armor, or panels. My crawler came with some sort of Avery tractor gril and I like the looks of it, so its staying...

I even have a set of the heavier duty repop fenders.. I wont be needing them after building my own set of very stout flat top fenders.

and we can work out some price...
