Post by: cletracboy on June 01, 2003, 12:58:42 PM
Can anyone tell me what model of cletrac if any the Hercules ZXD engine was fitted too, and also what are main differences between the different numberd IXB engines, eg. the difference between an IXB 3 and IXB 5. Thanks for any help, Sam

Sam The ZX was only used as a starting engine option for the FD and probably the OC-18. The ZX was used in the little B F Avery model V tractor. IX engines were made with two different configurations. Those with 3 timing gears such as on The HG crawler and those with 5 timing  gears which was not used by Oliver or Cletrac. The third letter IXA IXK IXB is a change in the bore size. Why IXK came (3.125) bore came before IXB 3.250 bore I do not know.

John, I have never seen a pony engine on an FD or OC-18, but there is one pictured on our site - I believe from Fr*nce. I guess they made them for export to third world countries. I know Cletrac always figured Cat had more trouble starting their pony engines than Cletrac had starting thier diesels with electric start.

Thank you Blake and John, I have about 10 sets of gaskets for the ZX engine in genuine Cletrac packing. I had been wondering what model they were for as I'd not heard it mentioned. Sam

Perhaps one of you could tell me weather the IXB engine in a HG needs two seperate exhaust manifold gaskets, and if it needs 2 are they identical? Thanks, Sam
