Title: Help identifying this crawler
Post by: Hayhauler on June 21, 2011, 03:26:26 AM
I just purchased this crawler along with an OC-3-42. It was in a barn fire which burned off the identification plate. The track width is 68". It appears that someone had extended the hood or it has the wrong hood.  Everything is stuck so it will be quite a challenge to get it going.  I noticed the front support on the right side is tapered and the one on the left is straight.  Is this correct?  Did these engines have babbitted rods or bearings? If babbitt then I as sure they have melted.

Oliver HG-68, The left side track support bracket might be early, and right side later style. Somebody else will know for sure.
The hood looks correct except from the picture it looks like 6 inches or so was added to the rear? is that a splice line I see or is the paint just faded?

The hood looks correct, as well as the grill, just the grill is pushed in at the bottom too much

Thanks for the responses.
Hotratz, Yes it is a splice line about 6" from the rear. It also has several patches on the left side. I attached a better picture.
Bob, I am afraid I did that unloading.

The two patched holes are a mystery. The spliced hood my have been to repair hood mounting straps that broke off but it seems like more work than just reworking the straps themselves.

As a side note, I always wondered what that little hole in the top center of the grill was for. Then I saw an old photo with a rubber (or leather?) strap fixed there that held the crank handle upright and stopped it slopping about.

Yep. A leather strap held the crank.
