Title: My En runs! But...
Post by: mikeinnh on September 10, 2011, 02:30:07 AM
So I finally had some time to try and get the En to run, after lots of hand cranking she fired and ran. Quick check of the oil pressure gauge brought that to a halt tho. Nothing showing. Changed the gauge- nothing, took gauge out and let line be open-nuttin. Now I'm a bit discouraged. By this. Gave up for now. Any common oil system issues on these? Might check some more into it tomorrow after the Dublin engine meet. Fun.

I have this trouble with an A I have. I had the pump out and finally got it primed again and it was fine. I would leave it sit for a couple weeks at a time with no issues. I left it sit all winter, and it wouldn't pick it up again. I haven't messed with it lately, but thought I am going to try to force oil into where the gauge port is, and that will hopefully give the pump a prime and take off pumping oil again.

Good luck,
Bob

Didn't think of it losing prime. Think I might try your idea of backfeeding oil into gauge port.

Ended up pulling the pan to clean out and inspect the oil pump and lower end. Hope to have it back together next week.

I primed my pump on the bench with a cup of oil and the electric drill. I actually increased the oil PSI also while I was there.

Looks easy enough while out to increase. How much did you turn the adjuster in?

I don't remember. I know its imposible to without the special wrenches with it in the machine...

Yeah I see that. Either way it's turned all the way in for max pressure already. Did the same prime proccess as you. And just for kick I tried it with a bone dry pump first. You could turn it forever and it won't draw oil dry. I just dribbled some oil down the outlet port and away it went. Just have to make some new gaskets for the pan and try her again.

It'll work then. Just remember if you haven't ran it in a long time, to keep an eye on the oil psi. It might do it again. I'm thinking the only way to fix it 100% is with a new pump

Do you know how to make a bearing leak  down test? This will show you where your problem might be + let you prime the engine.

Never heard of that?? How's that work? Is that like the pressure tanks that you hook up and watch all your bearings to check for oil flow?
