I have a 1965 OC-46 with the clutch steering setup. The clutches are burned up and the steering unit needs to be rebuilt. I may be able to get a hold of a planetary gear setup (trans, housing, gears, finals, etc) from an old parts tractor. My questions are: How hard will this conversion be, and what will I gain or loose by converting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The spot turn will turn the tractor much tighter however it can not pull as much of a load when turning as with the differiential steering.
If you change, you need the pinion gear for the crown gear from the donor tractor. That is the bottom shaft and gear from the transmission as they are a matched set. You will also need the axle shafts as well as the inboard end is different for the two types of steering so both tractors need to be the same gauge. Hope this helps
