While trying to improve my existing Aux Trans setup, I've found a way to make the coupling more user-friendly and stable. Using 2 Chain-Couplers' I got from Surplus Center and cutting the ears off and machining down stock HG joints to make splined bushings, the new set-up fits quite nice. I've used John DeMarris' hook-uip for 4 years now and it never let me down but I could'nt never get the slop out of the joints. This set-up is easy to install and allows for removal of the trans if need-be and handles up to 200 ft.lbs. of torque which is more than enough.

I thought about your approach for my Trasco installation but determined that those hubs would not fit in the 3" space I had to work with. Instead I picked up a couple of Model T Ford universal joints from eBay and cut them down to fit. No machining necessary as the splines on one end of the Model T Ford universal joint match the Trasco and the other end matches the stock propeller shaft.
The resulting configuration can be installed/removed without moving the engine or differential.

Has anyone seen these Spicer/Ford type universal joints with needle bearing cups instead of the normal bushings on the "cross"? And does anyone think this would be a useful improvement over the standard bushings?

Hi Blake.
Do you by chance have C. M. DeLong's photos anywhere from this thread? Or did that server crash a while back just lose everything? I'd love to make up some of these short couplings...
I'll have to hunt and see if I can find them Chris.

I just found some pics that I probably downloaded off this site before the other 'great crash' :'(
Do these look familiar....there's more, this is just a sample. If possible, I'd like to post them on my Facebook site, but I don't know who to ask.
They may be from that gentleman who passed away a few years back?? He wrote the guide and kindly sent me a copy.
If it help, the photos were taken in April 2009.
