Title: One stop shop for cross referenced parts?
Post by: Logginsteve on January 14, 2012, 01:28:03 AM
Hello!

I'm a new OC-3 owner, but I have experience with older vehicles.  One thing I'm surprised I haven't been able to find so far is a single source for currently available parts.  Especially common stuff like filters, gaskets, plugs, etc.  There's scattered information in places like this forum, but hunting and pecking consumes a lot of time.  Is there such a location to find current part number equivalents?

Thanks!

Steve

Sure would be nice to have. It would be a huge undertaking but maybe a group of us could get together and build some sort of a database. I just happen to be a web programmer with database experience.

If someone could do it, I would link to it. I tried to do something like that with the page listing sources of parts on this site, but it never amounted to much.

Even if someone wants to pursue making a list of parts and sources, I could put that list on the site.

This thread might be a good place to start. If everyone posted an item or two for various crawlers at least most of the info would be in one place.

Assuming this is the same filter as the IXK3, I needed to know that...

Back on topic, if someone can host a MySQL database I can write some sort of a web application in PHP, However, it might be some time before I can get to it, I have two other projects I need to work on first, and 2 Cletracs asking for some love.

I work for NAPA in Mansfield, Ohio. If you can give me some applicable information, I can look up alot of older part numbers or interchanges. We still have parts available for older ignition systems that can be accessed by our unit parts guide. If you need distributor parts, give me a Dist.# and a Manufacturer Name. We have alot of older gasket sets available for some older Continental and Hercules engines, but I need to know the model numbers, to look them up.

I've been meaning to reply since my initial post.  Unfortunately the day after I made that post I got bad news about the OC-3 I was supposed to buy.  It had been sitting for a few years and they were supposed to get it running before we sealed the deal.  Unfortunately, they pronounced it "dead" and are going to part it out instead.  After some work they got it to start and run briefly, then a bad noise deep in the engine kicked in and the engine would quit.  These guys are well known tractorheads around here and have worked on many Olivers.  The lead mechanic said he's never heard anything like it and has a guess that it's going to require a total engine rebuild.

Short of it is I'm out of the OC-3 owner circle before I even got in it officially.  All I have to show for it are two brand new Zimmerman manuals that were useless to me before they actually made it to my mailbox.  Bah.

For a variety of reasons I'm calling off the quest for an OC-3.  It was more of an opportunity knocking sort of thing, and now that opportunity is gone.

I wish you guys the best.  The OC-3 is fine machine and deserves to be preserved!

Hi Steve. You'll be fine so long as your replace that OC3 quest with an OC4 quest. You won't be disappointed  ;D
