Title: Wanted: 24V Starter for Cletrac DD
Post by: DerWindecker on January 29, 2012, 02:53:04 PM
Hi, I'm from Germany and bought a Cletrac DD last year in Belgium. It's the one Ad Marian photographed and posted in the Cletrac Photo Album. It runs great and the sound is like Devils organ  :D ! The DD has a pony motor (Citroen 4 Cyl.; perhaps from HY). It's very difficult to restore this pony motor and therefor I decided to search for the original 24V starter. Actually I'm not so familiar with the Cletrac crawlers and therefor I have 2 questions: where can I find the serial number and where can I find a starter? Did they change the starter between 1937 and 1958? BTW: is it perhaps the same starter as in the John Deere 730 (Delco)? Thanks, Hanno

Hanno, I moved your post to the "All Models Except..." section as it will be seen more. Once you find out what model number starter your DD takes, it may not be that hard to find as many of those starters were used on lots of other engines.

I probably have a starter for the DD. I do know there were a couple different ones they took. Only thing that was different to my knowlege was the legenth of the nose cone. Some had spacers between the engine plate and the starter. I think if you do a search on here it may come up, as I was hunting one years ago, and I believe Robert Barber came up with some numbers and better info!

You know some measurements would be good. It might be possiable to adapt a newer Delco series. I also have a big Delco out in the barn maybe I should check the number.
