As far as I know there are no glow plugs.
There were no glow plugs fitted to them, it is also an indirect injection engine and has a relativley low compression when compared to a modern tractor engine. I know here in England it is difficult to start on a cold day, I'm led to belive that is normal though. Your should have a water heater on the water pump side I think where you attach a blow torch to heat the water don't know much about them as mine doesn't have one, some of the later ones used ether capsules instead. I would try turning the engine over with an appropriatly sized Agricultural battery with the throttle open and be ready to shut the throttle as soon as it starts so as not to race the engine when cold. I use a Dewalt variable electric heat gun (as used for paint stripping etc..) aimed down the intake pipe by removing the large brass plug to help mine start if its cold, i guess a blow torch or burning rag would work. Sam ps: I'm thinking of adding a heat start unit in the intake manifold, but haven't tried it yet.
Sam ,, thanks for that heads up,,you too Blake. Sam did you get the pic I sent you? that must be the heater you talked about. Thanks for all your help..

These engines were hard starting even when new. All our Cletac diesels need a shot of ether.
Here's how to do it: start cranking the engine over - make sure it's turning at a good speed - and make sure you're getting a little smoke. No smoke = no fuel. Once you're getting some smoke and it's turning over, give it a small shot of ether into the air cleaner intake. Keep it cranking over and it should hit and fire. If not, stop and let the starter cool down for several minutes and try it again. Never give it too much ether at a time or you may break something.
Some people say use WD-40 instead of ether, but I have never tried it.
Some of these tractors had a canister on the dash that you could put ether capsuls in and then punture them by pushing down on the plunger. I don't think you can buy the capsuls anywhere.
Good luck.
