Title: Another Australian here to pick your brains if i can
Post by: mark stratton on May 15, 2012, 10:50:24 AM
I picked up an Oliver Crawler a couple of years ago and have to decided to try and save it, unfortunately the starter motor was removed before i got it and i'm not sure what to get for it, I'll give what details i have and would appreciate any help given.
The photo might be the best help
Model DDH
Serial no 3501817

some numbers i got off an engine plate, the rest are gone.
4-3/8 x 5-1/4
S39294T
DRXB
047  040

Hercules Diesel 6 cylinder

I'm trying to get it started first up and i don't know if it's 12V or 24V or the starter model, I did take some measurements to try and get one from delco but at that price i wanna get it right, cheers everyone and g'day from aus.

Welcome to the form!

Your DDH is from 1953 which makes it one of the later ones as production ended around 1955. The starter is a Delco 1109323, Oliver part number 60471.
It is a 24 volt starter. The DDH has a 12 volt charging system and a series parallel switch that provides 24 volts for starting.

Good luck with your machine.

I ran off with that number this morning full of confidence but then got shot down by the Delco agent, he says that number 1109323 has been superceded twice and they all now have 8 digits. They do seem to be fairly sure about it being a 40MT or something but required yet more measurements.
If it's within reason can any help with the number of teeth on the starter drive cog and the diameter of the drive cog or maybe even which current starter models fits the bill.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out:)

The number I gave was for the original starter used on this tractor.  All the starters that superceded this were made after this tractor was out of production!! Also there was and adapter ring between the starter and bell housing Oliver part number 46097.  I do not have a DD to measure for you.  I do have a DG and OC 15 but they used different starters.
