I just found the access panel under the seat has been off and there is some debris in the compartment. Any ideas on how to clean it all out. And I understand its oil filled, what weight? It does'nt appear to have any. Thanks and someday I will know enough to help someone else..
Anxious
It calls for 50 weight gear oil, which can be hard to find. I used SAE 50 engine oil in my E.
If there's dirt in there what i did with mine is put in some diesel oil and them removed all the drain plugs (4 in total, 2 down the centre and one on each final drive casing) this helped to flush out any dirt in the casing. I also used sae 50 it must not be an EP (extreme pressure) type oil, I'm told. You will need aprox 40litre +, I brought 2x 25litre drums and have a bit left over. also when your underneath you will see a third plug further forward in the centre, thats the plug in the bottom of the clutch housing, mine has a hole drilled in it with a bolt in it loose so it drains out but shouldn't let dirt in.
Remember that the same oil goes throughout the transmission, differential housing and final drives. It's pumped up to the transmission from the final drives and then flows over dams into the other compartments. If there's dirt in one area, you must be sure you get all the dirt out of everywhere.
