How hard would it be to find an engine for a 1952 Oliver Cletrac HG68? The guy that has it said he was told a Toyota truck engine would fit into it. What are the options for engines in these tractors?
any engine will fit using a bfh and cutting torch, but it will be easier to use the Hercules IXB3 that was originally used, they are around and were used in a variety of farm and industrial applications
I'd look for the IXB-3 also but some folks are more adventurous than me. :-[
An IXB5 will also work with minimal creativity needed. I've seen Nissan's, Jeep's and Mercedes' in them, but its not pretty - often seem to run into problems - judging by the price on Craig's List ;)
I sold a 1967 Mercedes diesel to a guy named Anthony. He put the engine in an HG, but I have not heard of the results. Last I heard it was for sale.
By the way, a '52 HG is an OC3
And a wide 68 gauge will almost certainly be fine with an IXK3 too. Unless you have a blade attached and plan to use it in anger ;)
Probably easier to find an IXK3.

I have a spare motor under my bench, it need's rebuilding.
I think I will try to just rebuild the motor in it. Going to just let the cylinders soak over the winter. The guy I got it from said it was one year since a rebuild when he got it. Then he used it for two years before it turned lose of a rod. He said it was not knocking. Just a pop when it happened. The rebuilder guy was already out of business. Wonder why?
I think it could had been easily reworked after it happened. Block looks good. But he had it in his mind to go with a six cylinder diesel and just let it set for four years with the head off and just the tin placed back over it.
Can you tell how good of a rebuild it was. Did the cylinders get bored out, new pistons, bearings, valves?
Some people think a rebuild is popping the head, honing the walls and new rings. I have looked at a couple like that.
I have rebuilt 2 from the bottom up and both sets of new pistons had the oversize number stamped on the top.
To do it right is expensive
How rusted are the cylinder walls? The second rebuild was stuck when I got it , but it freed up after about a month of marvel mystery oil.
