Title: v belt vs flat belt

I JUST PICKED UP AN EARLY W WITH A FLAT BELT FOR THE WATER PUMP.I HAVE A COMPLETE V BELT SET UP OFF LATER W.SHOULD I CHANGE TO IT OR STAY WITH FLAT BELT.I HAVE NO EXPERIANCE FLAT BELT SETUP.PROS CONS,WHERE WOULD I GET A BELT?AND HOWDO YOU TENSION IT  THANKS  BILL IN CT.

Flat belt setup would be fine I would think, tension I would guess would be a little less than a v belt. I may have a piece of belting, Just simple flat belt or leather would work. I think you may be able to get the connectors, maybe the belt material from Mcmaster Carr. Hardest part is putting the "alligator" couplings in without the special tool. I would think it could be done with a hammer or a vise with some finessing.

I would guess a V belt would be less maintenance, other than keepin tractor original, switching to v belt would be fine.

You just need to find someone with a belt lacer that crimps the alligator lacing into the belt ends. Someone on here may have one, or just ask around at the engine shows as there are hundreds of flat belts used around there. Or anyone who runs a sawmill should have one. Shouldn't be hard to find.

EARL HAS A FLAT HEAD!I PICKED THIS W  IN MT POCNO PA,IT WAS THE ONE ON EBAY.  I MISS MY BD  ANY PICS OF IT AT SHOWS ? HAPPY HOLIDAYS BOB AND TO ALL THE CLETRAC HEADS.  BILL IN CT.

Merry Christmas to you as well. I have some pics of the BD somewhere I'll try to post. I fixed the brake lock that kept randomly locking. I'm going to pull the head and do a valve job, maybe this winter. I think it will start and run better.
