Hello all. The killdozer is having some issues that indicate a bad condenser. Just wondering if these things are common enough to find at a parts store or if they are more of a special order item? Also, if one were to remove the Magneto to work on it are there any precautions that should be taken to ensure that the machine will start when it is put back on.
I bought a new condenser at NAPA along with the points for my wico xh113
Remove the timing hole plug on the right side of bellhousing. Turn the engine over until you see a mark on the flywheel that says SPK this is your timing mark , Number 1 cylinder should just be stating its compression stroke, when you re install the mag make sure your rotor is correctly timed to drive gear re install the distributor cap and align white mark on rotor so its visable in window on cap by turning drive coupling in the opposite direction to its ordinary direction magneto coupling should align with drive if you get it running time with light after
Thanks. I changed the condenser, and the problem is still there. About 40 minutes of running and the exhaust starts to get a bit black and it starts missing and then quits. Spark seems to be there. I'm thinking my ignition problem maybe a carb problem. I will definitely be checking Napa for points. Don't suppose they carry caps for the mag?
Apparently my ignition problem wasn't a carb problem either. Turns out that if you don't pay attention to the cap on the intake it will gradually work its way down and block the pipe. Explains the carbon, oily plugs and why it seemed to run better with the choke open.
So simple, but that could be a really hard and frustrating one to diagnose. Glad you found it! Kinda like the plugged vent hole in a gas cap.
