Title: will this fit my cletrac?
Post by: dbooth on February 21, 2013, 04:57:35 AM
Ebay Aust. has a cletrac engine for sale - item number 221191953476 Anyone care to have a look and advise? The seller says it might be a OC18 or FDE. I have a BD 1948 model. Is it worth the amount being asked? My motor mixes the water into the oil so will definitely need some work/repair. Any help gratefully received.

That is a DFXD or DFXE engine, 779 or 855 cu inches. Your BD is 298 cubes!  A way too big for your machine!!

I'd say its out of an FDE, the air cleaner looks more like an FDE, but am not sure what the earlier OC18s had. They would be the same engine, an FDE had a DFXE, as well as the OC18. I think the difference was just higher RPM and more fuel maybe timing...

The FDs would have had a different Herc, the injection pump was on the other side, that was smaller.

Looks to be a nice complete engine, if it were in the states I'd be all over it! Just a whisker big for the BD.

Friend of mine has a DD that gets water in the oil as well. Still can't figure what is wrong, but haven't torn it apart to find out.

It'd make a good road trip Bob. Get the truck ready.

Hi dbooth & Bob, I don't know the BD head but most heads have welsh plugs on top of them under the tappet cover and corode and leak putting water in the oil. That is the easiest problem after that it gets a little more complicated especialy dry liner motors like the BD engine.

I've got a BD head laying in the shop. I'll check it out a little closer.
